The Pact by Drs. Sampson Davis, George Jenkins and Rameck Hunt

This isn't a book I would normally pick up - my boyfriend had to read it as an assignment for a college course and I decided to read it as well.  That being said, I don't regret reading this book at all.  The Pact: Three Young Men Make a Promise and Fulfill a Dream by Drs. Sampson Davis, George Jenkins and Rameck Hunt with Lisa Frazier Page is an inspiring true story of three inner city kids overcoming all odds and becoming doctors.

Sam, George and Rameck grew up on the streets of Newark and while each had their own set of difficult circumstances, they each dealt with the temptations that came with hanging out with the wrong crowd.  The three boys were smart and all ended up becoming friends at University High where they eventually made a pact with each other to go to college and become doctors together.

The PactThroughout the story of their path to becoming doctors, the book goes off in tangents discussing the pitfalls of getting in with the wrong crowd.  Sam, George and Rameck weren't afraid to tell stories of their mistakes, even though some of them were pretty bad.  There is a purpose to those tangents though.  The book is broken down in chapters between the three guys, so the time period does jump around, but it is labeled pretty well.

I think this book is geared more towards young students, especially inner city kids, to stay on the right path and avoid getting in with crowds that could negatively influence you.  However, I feel that no matter what you age, social status, or education level this book is inspiring in so many ways which is why I give it 4 stars.  I think it would especially be beneficial to kids in their mid teens, but anyone can find something to relate to in this book.
